Having opened "Espace PEpin" in the heart of Old Montreal in the fall of 1998, Lysanne Pepin created a space to exhibit her impressive opus, comprising sensual acrylic on canvas paintings.
PEpin paints many different subjects. Having lived around horses
during a sojourn in Costa Rica, PEpin brings a heartfelt respect
and attention to the large figurative works featuring these wild
and majestic beasts. Similarly, each still life painting is
approached with a remarkable sensitivity and masterful handling
of color and form. Large-scale nudes are rendered with a sensual
and powerfully subtle touch. Flesh becomes bold and intensely
tactile forms that almost defy the two-dimensional nature of the
canvas. The same care and talent is used when approaching
portraits, which manage to both capture the likeness of the
subject and evoke strong emotions as well.
But PEpin cannot just be considered an artist. She must also be
classified as an innovator and pioneer in the rebirth of Old
Montréal, as the city's most thriving and innovative sector.
Having arrived there over three years ago, her space was pivotal
in both attracting traffic to the area as well as inspiring other
retailers to join her. Today she remains at the center of this
burgeoning district; she is not, however, content to rest on
these laurels.
PEpin is looking to the future and to, more specifically, the
promotion of other emerging Canadian talent. She has transformed her space into a veritable Mecca of new artists and artisans, creating an apartment-like concept where customers can walk around a highly edited home, carefully furnished with individual touches from Canada's blossoming design community. Be it table settings or the table itself, linens for the bathroom or linens for the body, or art intended for the wall, floor or ceiling, Espace PEpin continues to re-invigorate Old Montréal, and offer its consumer new and exciting products by some of Montréal's leading talent.
Be it artist, editor, ambassador, entrepreneur, painter or
innovator, PEpin has embraced each of her roles with the same
determination and fervor, establishing herself as a force in
today's creative community.

Believing that today's customers would prefer to view her works
in the context of a room, be it a bedroom, living room, kitchen
or even bathroom, PEpin has revolutionized the concept of buying
art in Montréal by transforming her space into a veritable '
Appartment'. And who better to decorate an apartment, than this
style-maker who has been working with magazines such as
'DecorMag ' and the Salon de l'Habitation de Montréal for over a
decade. Through the years, PEpin has come into contact with some
of this country's foremost design talents, all of whom share her
passion and conviction that art can, and should, be enjoyed in
daily-life settings. They have all collaborated to create
"Espace PEpin: L'Appartement de l'artiste", a model-home of sorts
that demonstrates that one can surround themselves with beautiful
items, while never compromising their functionality.
